Omis
Das malerische Städtchen Omis liegt auf der Mündung des Flusses Cetina unter den Festungen Mirabella und Starigrad. Es befindet sich zwischen zwei bekannten Tourismuszentren Split und Makarska. Omis ist der touristische Mittelpunkt der 35 km langen Riviera von Omis, zu der die Orte Bajnice, Krilo-Jesenice, Suvi Potok, Sumpetar, Mali Rat, Duce, Nemira, Stanici, Lokva Rogoznica, Mimice, Medici und Pisak gehören.
Dieses Städtchen hat eine reiche und stürmische Geschichte. Die Schlucht des Flusses Cetina war einst ein grosser Stützpunkt der Neretva-Piraten, die während der vergangenen Jahrhunderten ihrer Tapferkeit und ihren Seekenntnissen nach bekannt waren. Als die Fuerstenfamilie Kacic auf diesem Gebiet herrschte, kam das besonders zum Ausdruck. Damals waren die Piraten der Hauptgrund warum es auf diesem Gebiet nicht zur Übermacht der Republik Venedig kam, obwohl die Republik Venedig sogar zwei mal in die Kreuzzuege zog um die Piraten von Omis zu besiegen. Nachdem Familie Kacic ihren Einfluss verloren hatte, kam das Gebiet von Omis unter den Einfluss fremder Herrscher, die sich waehrend der folgenden Jahrhunderte oft wechselten.
